Consumer mentality

Posted October 20, 2011 at 12:34pm

I've just realized that over the last few months I've lost my spark. I have become stuck in my ways, in terms of work, education, and in my own personal interests.

For instance, once upon a time I would stay up late thinking and coding and designing. Nowadays I just work mindlessly, go to boring classes, come back home, and vegetate in bed at 9pm.

With regards to Route 50, I've also been somewhat hesitant to work on it since I've gotten this weird idea in my mind that I have to justify it with monetary gain or future prospects (such as making it a career). Clearly neither of those things will ever happen for a number of reasons, so what's the point?

The point is that I love Route 50 - it's always been a place of learning and growth, and I'm extremely proud of how far it's gotten and where it is today. I may not be working on Route 50 in 10 years, but I would be a much different (and arguably, a much less equipped) person today if it had never existed. That alone proves its worth.

In summary: I'll still be busy with work, school, and college life; those things will inevitably affect my activity, but I won't resist working on Route 50 because of fallacies about "growing up" and making a buck. Route 50 means a lot to me, and I won't be leaving any time soon!

PS: I may be uprooting some old, but misguided/broken traditions, of Route 50 in coming updates. Prepare yourself to do some readjustment with new site functions.

It looks like you have a lot on your plate, but don't forget to find time for the fun things! Just don't overwork yourself. D: That wouldn't be good! And anyway, so what if this website isn't a career? It's still fun! :D Aaaand, you should be proud of Route 50, it's thriving community, and that amazing styleswitcher! ♥ In short, just try t find the good in things and build on that! :D Good luck~!

I'm going through the same mindless work you're going through. The key is, make time for yourself, do what you like. A hobby is an extremely healthy thing to have, especially when it connects you to cool people. Don't lose site of what you value in your life. As the philosophically great movie, Zombieland, once said, "Rule 32: Enjoy the little things."

*nods* Route 50 means a lot to me personally. Making some good friends, really learning how to make a story, the two years I've been here have meant a lot. Hopefully, we can all make sure it's here for all who might happen to find it in the future.

Change is good (despite what Popecool might say :P) - never good to just leave things be for the sake of it! Look forward to seeing whatever changes are ahead :)

I'd just like to say that Route 50's one of the best experiences I've ever had. And the fact that Route 50's gotten as far as it already has... it's something I'm really glad for. So... here's to many more years of Route 50~ :D *clinks glass*
