SPEAKING OF ROLEPLAYS!! (anyone remember these :'D)
[hI have a plan for a Route 50 Roleplay, where you can roleplay as yourself! It's supposed to be casual :') but I'm not sure if it's well-planned? Like... if it'll flop because of me? Here's a link to the summary: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing
For instance, I know people need little events to build off of and to bring them together! Like coral to ships!
As well as that, the rumour system can let people build storylines as well!
Erm, hm... little things like mail means a mailbox and a base, which is a good starting point, and the locations can be hub-bubs for activity. If they're in the rp summary as well, they're easy to write in! :') and since most people in the RP will know them, they can be settings for the mail and rumours. YUP!!
Regarding playing as oneself or 'sona, I suppose... you would act as yourself in a style similar to RouteSaga? Obviously, some people might make each other upset if they wrote themselves with actual tension between their personas!
[I'm also not sure how battling between non-Pokes or form-changing will occur. Maybe through the base? Like changing clothes, unless you naturally are just really good at shifting your personas :")
I am also considering a Magical Girl/Boy/Person roleplay! Which is going to be... kinda detailed, I guess? I'm just not sure how to go about it. I don't want it to be restrictive at all! It's just that, well, it seems like magical girls are better suited to single-author works, especially anything with visuals. :"I
Wishes that break plots... sincerely upsetting emotions and tension between player characters... character death... perspectives leading to soliquys... overpowered magical girls... naming your attacks... ugH!! It's hard! I really want to, but it feels like it's just not going to work! Sigh.
So, I've been thinking...!
What is it that truly makes a roleplay enjoyable? What makes a roleplay so attractive that people participate in and perhaps complete it? How can a roleplay have both an interesting plot, yet be malleable enough that all roleplayers can beautify and complicate and weave the plot without domineering it? Even perhaps, exploring within it?
what could make a roleplay be roleplayed, when roleplayers choose not...? When there is distance between the heart of the writer, and the character they choose to play?
(I really like roleplays. but they can be kind of stiff, and it feels like the rules of the roleplays, and the quiet discouragement of innovation or original plotlines, and the nature of waiting for someone else to confirm their character's actions, before any interactions or changes can occur, makes them overall clunky and unenjoyable almost immediately.
Alongside a sense of abandonment in the forums, knowledge that other roleplayers are probably not enjoying themselves and will quickly abandone the roleplay, a sense of tedium, active character forms not being easy to search for and read through (newer roleplayers will just not join out of confusion, sometimes? as well as missing key information :') ), and disengagment from roleplay worlds in general...
are roleplays dead? Or perhaps, are only the most casual and friendly, bonding types of roleplays worth writing in, with the many cons of roleplaying (as opposed to writing, collaboratively or no, or even reading)?
Roleplays I have personally found to be engaging, and have found others to be attracted to (although this may be biased) are ones that allow shorter paragraphs for quick and concise updating, and less rigid character creation for characters to be discovered through the roleplay itself, and to allow the roleplayer to slowly understand and develop their own character through interaction with the roleplay's world and characters in general, rather than be restricted, adhering to an initial idea from the get-go.
Ones that are especially fun, and alluring, are roleplays in which the roleplayers interact through their character, with other roleplayers through their characters!
For instance, a roleplay where everyone is within route 50, playing as themselves! Woo hoo!
That's an extreme example though, but it's just relaxed and good-natured, and essentially allows any actions or plotlines. It's just... fun.
I will admit that, as a person that really wants to write with people... there's something about roleplays, at least on this site, that I feel is... hopeless? , even (I'm not sure! I can't find the words, but just... I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, it's not an insult!! <3) I'm curious as to why, really, since I've noted at least a few people would like them revived, considering they used to be so fun! And were a huge part of Route 50.
Studies aside, I really do feel as though something is wrong, and I just can't quite figure out what seperates these roleplays from roleplays on other sites.

Y'know... I feel like, rt50 lore wise... those of us that post songs on their base would run a disco nightclub together, hahaha. Yeah... taking turns to choose which songs to play/show to everyone else. It'd probably be pretty unpopular lol. We'd literally just play songs for ourselves :'D like... the djs would be raving as well, because there's no one else there to.
and people that want to talk about private issues could talk there because the music is so loud that you have no chance of eavesdroppers. although i guess it'd be pretty suspicious if you're found there. huh...
yeah! it'd be underground or far away because it's so loud. or maybe it's abandoned most of the time, and when everyone gets enough songs then it comes alive for like... a night... :'D and everyone's really self-conscious about the songs they play?
like, y'know when ur rocking out, and u show ur friend this awesome song and ALL OF A SUDDEN, you realise it's not as amazingly table-turningly GORGEOUS as you remembered? and then you understand why they listen for like, one minute and go like 'yeah man, it's nice i guess. cool.'
Like... that... sigh...
you know what would be a cool feature for this site? A sidebar on stream where the names of people chatting in the chat lobby!! Maybe it could live update, but I'm not sure if displaying updates to chat contents / what people are conversing about is the greatest idea, considering that people sometimes talk about personal and heavy things with each other, too.
Especially if it's a one-on-one or small / niche / depressing / context-may-be-necessary-to-understanding conversation.
Alternatively, like... there could be a hidden chat where people could move if they needed to...
we could also have the amount of lobby participants displayed over the chat button! Like notifications! :-)
