My view of Pokemon / Route 50

April 23, 2012 at 10:06am

I was one of those kids who grew up with a Gameboy in their pocket and one of the only games in it being Pokemon Red, Yellow or Gold. Back then Pokemon was likely one of the most creative and fun games any kid could have and you'd play for hours under the covers in bed.

While I continued to play Pokemon until around 13 (three years ago), I've slowly lost interest over the years. I guess I may have grown up too fast as I began coding and focusing on the computer a year before that time. I started to realize how much money I had put into GBA and DS games over the years and decided I should save my money instead. This was one of the reasons I never got another game after Pokemon Pearl.

Pokemon is a lovable game and I miss every aspect of it, but as I see it today it seems that they've really gone too far.

There really is a pokemon for everything already, or it seemed that way years ago. I find the fact that there are pokemon of a lawnmower and other random shapes just because there aren't anymore ideas. One of the other reasons I've lost interest is because of ..frankly growing up.

I'm still apart of Route 50 and have been for almost 5 years now.. (been apart of it before it was even a community) but I'm just.. not as connected as I used to be. I love and appreciate all the epic friends that used to be here and still likely are that made the entire experience fun.

I'm hopeful for the future of Route 50, and an amazing thank you and congrats to everyone who helped make it possible. In the meanwhile, share you're idea of 'where Pokemon is going' in the comments.

It makes me happy to see R50 still alive so many years later, and so many familiar faces still here. Love you all very much. Might I say with V3 and R50 together, it's been over a decade?

It's odd to think back at your life and remember little glimpses of memories and almost forget them. This was an interesting chapter.. http://route50.net/base/2

Ah, dreams. It seems that at times there's no fooling reality, yet when you're flying through a town or hanging out with 'friends' in one, the last thing you'd think was it wasn't real.

So, Katie + Navarr how about we make the topbar scroll-fixed? So when you scroll past the header it automatically fixes itself to the top? It's a simple bit of jquery + css.
Code:
// fix r50 navigation on scroll!
    var $win = $(window)
      , $nav = $('.topbar)
      , navTop = $('.topbar').length && $('.topbar').offset().top - 40 //change pixels
      , isFixed = 0

    processScroll()

    $win.on('scroll', processScroll)

    function processScroll() {
      var i, scrollTop = $win.scrollTop()
      if (scrollTop >= navTop && !isFixed) {
        isFixed = 1
        $nav.addClass('topbar-fixed')
      } else if (scrollTop <= navTop && isFixed) {
        isFixed = 0
        $nav.removeClass('topbar-fixed') //change to fixed class.
      }
    }
You two will have to modify that coding a bit to match the navigation's classes.
Please consider this? (It's jquery).
