Or even better, AJAX notification box. When new notif's are detected, a sound (maybe) will play and the page title will change like (1) Route 50, that's how Gmail did.
You may have noticed a few changes..

This is more fatal, now there is no visual clue in the notification icon. We are only noticing the browser title when it's in a different tab.

No.. there is still the red border? Once you open the notifications page, it marks them as read, so it won't glow red until you get more that you haven't seen.

Notifications are still pretty hard to see regardless of the border, which is actually very subtle.
