Cordelia pointed her sword at the crew. "In the name of the Knights of Lumiel, I order you to answer: What does justice mean to you?"

"Getting Percy's sword," muttered Maestra.

"Lances and rupies," said Sparkleaf, swishing his tail back and forth.

"Uncapping weapons," said Xeta.

"Boobs," said Ark.

"Casino chips," said Rai, making finger guns into the sky.

"SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN," yelled Typh.

**Mae held out the pap: The Origins, Part 2**

Mae and her friends were talking outside the Knickknack Shack in Mizarea. "So, Rackam!" said Lyria excitedly. "Your friend was that guy in the fundoshi?"

Rackam scratched his head. "Yeah, he's always been a little crazy..."

"Oho, are you talking about Eugen?" Sierokarte emerged from the back of the shop, followed by a skyfarer with a sword resting over her shoulder. "Eugen doesn't usually go fishing. But when he does, he wears his fundoshi. Fish responsibly, kids."

"Fundoshis are great," agreed the skyfarer. "Soiya!"

"Mm?" Vyrn glanced up from his apple and looked at the skyfarer. "Why, if it isn't Xeta!"

"Why, if it isn't lizard-san!" Snickering, Xetaja glanced at Mae. "Hey, chuuniP. Good to see you again."

Mae nodded. The Grancypher's crew first ran into Xeta in Valtz. "Xet, yo. How's the crew?"

"Ha, same as usual. Which is to say, absolutely terrible. Someone keeps flying to Zinkenstill to punch primal beasts and our funds are almost dry." Xeta shrugged. "What about your crew?"

Maestra groaned. After saving Port Breeze from Tiamat, Maestra and her friends joined a crew with its headquarters on Golonzo. The Grandcypher was now part of a crew whose captain they'd never even met.

Lyria glomped Maestra from behind. "It's okay, Djeeta! No matter where we go, we'll be together."

Mae rolled her eyes. "Duh. We're life-linked."

...

Meanwhile, Spark's crew climbed out of the water and onto the shore. Spark stared at his wrecked ship, sinking into Auguste's ocean. "Well, that was a disaster. Everyone safe?"

"Not sure," said Typh, picking the fox up. "I'll check real quick, secs."

Melleau, Krugne, Carmelina, Karteira, Garmr, Baotorda, Teena, Jasmine, and Karva all looked at Typh. "Sec!" he yelled. "I meant 'sec'! As in, a second!"

"Please be gentle," said the fox.

Typh promptly dropped Sparkleaf on the ground.

The crew was sorting through the weapon stash. "What's this?" asked Jeanne, holding up an albedo blaster.

"Two months ago, Deliford and Clarisse left the crew briefly to spend time with their families," said Xeta. "They both ended up kidnapped."

"What's this?" asked Chat Noir, holding up an emerald spear.

"One month ago, Naoise left to check up on his homeland of Irestill," said Typh. "He ended up almost dying."

Mae made a disgusted sound and threw a pina pillow at the wall. "That does it! Does anyone else need to visit home soon? Let me know, right now."

Just then, Vyrn flew into the room. "Djeeta, Djeeta, guess what we found in Lecia's dad's diary!" he exclaimed, tugging at Mae's sleeve. "Let's go back home to Zinkenstill!"

Chomp-chomp. In a diner in Auguste, Maestra stared as Lyria wolfed down her meal. "Uh, don't forget to breathe."

Draining her glass of water, Lyria glanced at Mae. "Hm?"

Sighing, Mae shook her head. "Nothing."

At that moment, they spotted a familiar face. A girl holding a lantern, wearing a green cloak. "Hey Teena, over here," said Mae, waving her over to their table. "How's it going?"

Teena had traveled with both Mae and Xeta in the past. After she and her brother slew the goblins who killed their mother, they parted ways. "Well, I joined up with another crew," said Teena. "But Erste shot us down, since our captain's a fox and all."

Xeta snorted. "Well, duh! You wouldn't want a fox in charge of the boat."

"A fair number of Erunes do business in this area, though," said Mae thoughtfully. "Maybe that's why Auguste's at war with Erste?"

"Yeah, but that's different. A fox is a fox. An Erune's an Erune." Xetaja nodded to her bodyguard. "Right, Yuisis?"

No response. Xeta turned her head. Yuisis was gone. "Oh, Yuisis stepped out," said Lyria. "She'll be right back."

...

Outside, Spark and his stranded crew wandered the streets of Mizarea. "So now what, fox-dancho?" said Typh. "Auguste's at war with Erste. There's gotta be plenty of skyfarers willing to sign up with a fox captain."

Spark looked glumly at his paws. "Yeah. Let's find recruits."

Across the street, some kids were fooling around and teasing a white haired Erune. "Onee-chan, Onee-chan, say 'nyaa' for us!" begged a Draph kid.

The white haired Erune shifted uncomfortably, shyly. "Is... is this okay-nyan?" said Sen tenatively.

Typh glanced up. His heart skipped a beat as he saw Sen. "Hey! Leave that lady alone!" he yelled, one hand reaching for his staff.

Immediate, Spark bit Typh's arm as Carmelina yanked Typh back with her hoop. "Are you out of your mind?! They're just kids!" hissed the fox.

The crew managed to chase the kids away. "Ugh, kids are so annoying," grumbled Typh. Spark frowned. "Can't they all just stay at home?"

A low laugh from behind them. "Awful rude of you," said a voice. "Coming into someone else's hometown and teling them what they can and can't do..."

They spun around to see a gold-haired Erune in silver armor, pointing a pink-and-gold sword at them.

Sparkleaf's eyes widened. "Please, miss, my first officer meant no harm!" said the fox quickly. "He's just frustrated because we lost our ship. No skyfarer likes to be grounded, see."

His eyes lit up, and he leaned toward her ear. "Also, he's totally suppressing his inner lolicon."

Typh blinked. "What."

Yuisis stared, then laughed. "I gotcha," she said, sheathing her sword. "You two get along well, eh?"

"I'm not a lolicon!" protested Typh.

"We know," said Spark. He smiled at Yuisis. "I'm Spark, the captain."

Yuisis grinned. "The name's Yuisis. Nice meetin' ya." She held out her her hand.

As Spark shook Ýuisis's hand, a tingle ran up his spine, and he looked shyly down at his paws.

A faint tinge of color flickered in Yuisis's cheeks. "A-Anyway, I'd best get back to my employer," said the Erune hastily. "Till we meet again, Spark."

As Yuisis strode off, the crew turned its attention to the catlike Erune. "Thanks for saving me back there!" she exclaimed, looking at Typh with bright eyes. "I'm Sen, the mountain climber."

Typh blinked. "I'm Typh. Nice to meet you, Sen." His eyes lit up. "Oh! Our crew's looking for recruits. Would you like to join us?"

"A skyfarer crew? I'd love to!" Sen paused thoughtfully, one finger on her lip. "Ooh, wait, I'm already part of a crew. Sorry, I can't!"

"O-oh, okay..." Typh rubbed the back of his head.

Sen's ears twitched. "Oh, but don't get me wrong, nya. It was nice meeting you, Typh!" Mewing, she glomped Typh before bounding off.

The crew of the Grandcypher had stopped at the Jewel Resort Casino for the day.

At a poker table, Maestra glared at the dealer. Face-up card:Jack. Higher or Lower?"asked the dealer

"Lower."

The face-up card over the other card: A 10. Adding chips to Mae's wager, the dealer put down another card face down. "Higher or lower?"

Typh peeked over Mae's shoulder. "Ooh, what's this?"

Mae pushed Typh away. "Lower."

The dealer turned over the face down card: another Jack. Mae groaned as the dealer took her chips.

Typh peeked over Mae's shoulder again. "How do I play?"

At the bingo tables, Spark had 100k chips riding on the line. On his bingo card, he had 4 gems in a row from the initial balls alone...

The final ball was called, and it waa the number under his free space. Spark groaned as the casino workers took away his chips.

Meanwhile, Mae and Typh had retreated to the wishing fountain. "Typh, a good strategy is to go high on high cards and low on low cards," joked Mae.

"Okay!" said Typh brightly, running over to the poker tables.

Alarmed, Mae stood up. "Typh, no," called Xeta. Too late, he was gone.

Spark slinked over to them, dejected. "So I didn't realize I only had 100k chips, and now I'm out of chips."

Xeta groaned. "Sparkle, why?"

A loud wail from the poker tables. "I HAVE BEEN... BAMBOOZLED?" cried Typh.

"Cinnatyph roll," whispered Spark.

Mae ground her boot into the floor. "You know what? We're not gonna win anything here. Let's go, guys."

"Go where?" Spark, Xeta, and Mae all gasped as Rai joined them, holding Anat summon-stones, Laevanteinns, moonlight stones, steel bricks, a stunning blue dress for Katalina, and a giant crate of casino chips. "Hey guys! Guess what I won?"

Smiling sadly, Yuisis turned away. "This isn't your fight, Sparkleaf," she said quietly, gazing out across the sky. "This is my fight alone. Always has been. For the family that believed in me... for the family that I let down--"

She broke off as Sparkleaf hugged her from behind. A tear rolled down the Erune's cheek. "Why? Why can't you let go of me...?"

"I can't!" Sparkleaf's voice shook. "I... I can't abandon the person I like to face the entire world alone. That's... that's just too sad..."

Yuisis's eyes widened. "You're so strong, Yui," whispered Sparkleaf. "You help everyone around you. Even though you're carrying so much in your heart. Don't you know how sad we'd be if you were gone...?"

The Erune shook. She could feel the fox's warmth on her back. "Yuisis, I... I want to be strong like you someday," murmured Spark. "So please... please, let me be your strength

A loud thump from outside. Immediately, Sparkleaf shut his journal tightly and covered it as Yuisis passed down the corridor.

"So you need to get to Valtz?" said Xeta, sword across her shoulder, flanked by her bodyguards: Melleau, Charlotta, Marquiares, and Yuisis."Yep, I've got a boat. Or my crew does."

Outside the Knickknack Shack, Spark's crew had accepted a request to subdue a Colossus.

Typh pointed at Melleau. "Wait, aren't you part of our crew?"

Xeta looked at Melleau and shrugged. "Maybe? She works with a lot of crews."

"Man, why are all Erunes so pretty?" muttered Typh.

"Yuisis is cute," blurted Spark without thinking.

Yuisis blinked and looked at Spark. "You say something?" Immediately, Spark looked away, blushing.

...

On Xeta's tiny ship, Spark glanced at his crew roster, checking the new recruits they picked up in Auguste. "Drusilla, Jamil, Sutera, Leonore, and Petra," read Spark. "Typh, why is Sen on here? She said she's already with a crew."

"That didn't stop Melleau," said Typh, sounding hopeful.

Teena shook her head. "Sen's with the Grandcypher, Typh. You know what that crew's after, right?"

"Oh yeah, Djeeta's friends," chuckled Karteira. "Dontcha know, they fixin ta' go ter Estalucia?"

Typh and Spark stared blankly. "Estalucia?!"

"Estalucia," repeated Karteira."I'll be smoked if we ever cross paths again."

Typh's shoulders drooped. "O-okay," he mumbled. He looked around hastily for a change of topic. "A-anyway, what's that?".

Everyone exchanged glances. Typh was pointing at Teena. "That's a girl, Typh."

Typh cringed. "I-I mean..." Clearing his throat, he held out his hand to Teena. "Well, uh, welcome to the crew, new recruit!"

"Um, she's been in our crew for a while," said Spark.

A few seconds later, Xet crashed her ship on Valtz.

Joints swinging, Colossus charged at the skyfarers.

"Why am I helping you guys?" sighed Xeta as she and Charlotta parried Colossus's slashes,

"Because you need money for new propellers, right?" said Spark, thrusting his turpin spear at Colo's helmet as Leonora and Krugne slashed at its breastplate.

"JUST DIE ALREADY!" screamed Typh at Colo as he, Ange, and Ulamuramuran swung at Colo's back and shoulders.

Colo kept moving as if the skyfarers. weren't there, completely oblivious to their attacks.

"Hey, fox-dancho, why'd you bring a wind team?" yelled Xeta, beating furiously at Colo's ankles with her sword.

The fox sprang back as Colossus flung Leonora into Krugne, KOing them both. "I just like this spear, okay?"

Flinging them all back with one sweep of its arm, Colossus stopped in the middle of the cave and began to glow. All the dents and cracks in its armor began to vanish.

"No! DON'T GET DAMAGE CUT! DON'T GET REFRESH!" screamed Typh.

Getting up, Sparkleaf raised his spear and ran at Colossus again, jabbing the giant automaton's foot. "Hyaaaaah!" yelled the fox, tail swishing excitedly.

Xeta and Typh watched as Colo sent Spark flying through the nearest wall.

A few hours later, Xet, Typh, and Spark, presented Archduke Tzaka with Colo's helmet and received sacks of rupies. "That settles it," said Xeta. "You guys are nothing but trouble."

Typh and Spark hung their heads. "Sorry," said Spark as Teena healed their bruises and injuried. "Well, you won't have to worry about us from here out."

Xeta laughed. "Dafuq u talking about? This is the most interesting thing I've done all month." She paused thoughtfully. "In fact... eh, never mind."

They returned to Xeta's ship outside the city. To Xeta's surprise, there were several crates on deck.

"Welcome back! We were able to fix the ship fer cheap," called Melleau as they boarded. "Got some parts off a recent crash over in Auguste. Still in perfect condition, too!"

Opening a crate, Spark's eyes widened as he saw the replacement propeller. "Hey, Typh! Doesn't this look like the propellers from our ship?"

Typh gasped. "It does!"

Xet grinned. "Perfect." She poked Spark."Hey, listen. You need a ship, right? My crew's not too active. I'm sure they won't miss this one. And it's partly your ship now, anyway."

Spark looked at the pile of N weapons. "Good haul today, crew," cheered the fox.

Xet stared blankly. "Captain, they're all N weapons."

Spark grinned. "Yeah! We can use them to upgrade our weapons."

Xet massaged her forehead. "You don't use Angel Halos...?"

"Angel Halos...?" echoed Typh, eyes wide like the moon.

Xeta stared at them. "You don't know abot Angel Halos?!"

...

Scattered across Phantagrade are the angel halos, mysterious creatures wielding rainbow-colored weapons. Though the mortal races cannot make much use of these weapons, they are imbued with tremendous power.

"Anyway, you're supposed to use angel weapons to upgrade your weapons," said Xeta. "Don't bother farming N weapons."

Spark and Typh exchanged glances. "What do we do with all this then?" asked Typh.

"Feed it to the ship, silly." She led them to the engine room. "Just put any unwanted weapons in the reactor and the engine will upgrade, just like a weapon."

Typh's eyes widened. "You can do that?" he gasped.

Xeta sighed. "But this reactor came from your ship..." She shrugged. "No worries. I'll share what I know about crews."

"Oh hang on!" Typh ran out of the room and returned with all his weapons.

Xeta stared as Typh dumped all his weapons into the reactor: N, R, and even SRs. "Who recruited this kid? Sparklein, take responsibility."

The fox looked at Typh. "I'll take responsibility and marry you," said the fox.

"Hey, I know we just came here to reunite Orchis with the Black Knight, but let's go save Orchis from the Black Knight!" said Lyria eagerly.

"Lyria no" said Rackam.

"Lyria yes" said Lyria.

"Lyria no" said Katalina.

"Lyria yes" said Eugen.

Groaning, Maestra fired three shots in the air. "Please shut up." The crew of the Grandcypher had been wandering around Lumacie for several days now.

At that moment, a horde of myconids jumped out of the woods, surrounding the party.

"Everyone, weapons!" shouted Katalina, drawing her rapier, glancing back to the others. "Eh? Lyria? Where'd you go--"

Chomp-chomp-chomp-chomp-chomp. Maestra glanced around. No more myconids. Just Lyria, stuffing bits of mushroom into her mouth.

"This is why we gotta save Orchis! I wanna share this taste with her!"

Arkangel shook Percival's hand. "Welcome aboard the Grandcypher. It's truly an honor to have you aboard. We've heard plenty of stories of your skill in battle."

Percival looked back at Ark, unimpressed. "Flattery will get you nowhere. You're just an ensign, right? You've cleared this with your captain first?"

Arkangel smirked evilly. "Don't worry. The captain's a huge fan of yours..."

...

"I don't really care," said Maestra, cleaning the barrel of her Tiamat Bolt Omega. The floor was covered in salt.

"It's not like Ark found Percy's sword at the gacha shrine..." Spark and Typh exchanged glances. "I mean, i-it's not like I'm interested in him or anything..."

Still holding her rifle, she tilted her head back like in a Shaft anime. Her fish-eyed look was eerily reminiscent of Vira. "You think it'd be more special if we found his sword first?"

...

Spark throttled Ark by the neck. "Good job, Dot, you've made Mae invert into a yandere."

Ark looked disappointed. "What? That's it?"

"Yeah man, she was making the yandere eyes," said Typh, shuddering.

"Were they yan eyes or dere eyes?" asked Ark cheekily.

"Which do you think, you dumb hentai!?"

Strike time! Rackam paced around the Grandcypher, rifle in hand.

Down below, Maestra, Aliza, and Heles were fighting Tiamat. Mae wore a hermit's green cloak.

Dropping to one knee, Rackam fired at Tia's face. Yelling, Maestra sprang forward and jabbed Tia with Flohrenberk a bunch of times.

Drusilla tugged at Rackam's arm. "Hey, how come I can't be in one of the landing parties?'

Rackam sighed heavily. Since he stayed behind during raids to do maintenance on the Grandcypher, he was stuck babysitting everyone left behind. "Eh, maybe they just didn't want you to get hurt?"

"But I can do so much," protested Drusilla. "I know the best market prices for everyone's favorite snacks, and I can run to the store and back in two turns--"

"Hello, masters! I've brought tea," said Dorothy, who was suddenly behind Rackam, causing him to jump in fright.

"Hey, Dorothy, not so fast!" called Lowain, hurrying onto deck with a plate of cookies, only to trip over a snoring Lamretta. Groaning, Rackam covered his face.

At that moment, Typh, Karva, Naoise, and Sen returned to the the ship with a million Tiamat Omega carcasses. "GUYS AM I USEFUL YET?" yelled Typh as Drusilla, Dorothy, Altair, Ulamuramuran, Yaia, and Lowain all stared at him.

The crew of the Grandcypher had laid anchors at the Astral battlefield near Agastia. Each month, at the Unite and Fight festival, skyfarer crews from all over came to this island to hunt primal beasts for the locals.

This time, the golem Dunkelheit had gone on a rampage, stirring up the local Behemoth population. A crack team of Berserkers were currently subduing Dunkelheit, but...

Mae, Typh, Spark, Xeta, and Rai stared up at the Behemoth looming over them. Stepping forward, Mae plucked the strings of her pillow dominion harp. The first few crystalline notes gave a signal to the rest of the crew. Flanking their captain, Uzuki and Naoise raised their swords as Johann cast a white aura over them.

Lyria ran to Rai and summoned Anat.

A swish of Sparkleaf's tail, and a triangular aura spun around his team, accelerating their movements. Raising his +36 dragonflair cutter, Spark dashed at the Behemoth and thrust at its side as Yuisis, Melissabellle, and Gawain hacked at its legs.

Lyria ran to Mae and summoned Lucifer.

Typh traced a sigil in the air with his golden sword, and a dark mist engulfed Behemoth, its muscle tissue shriveling. A second sigil, and a dark aura flashed down around Behemoth, weighing down its limbs.

Lyria ran to Spark and summoned Kaguya.

Clad in heavy platemail, Xeta jabbed Behemoth with her nigredo lance. Behemoth's claws came crashing down on Rosetta's barrier of ~~cookies~~ thorns as Albert and Jeanne slashed at its belly.

Lyria ran to Typh and summoned Nacht.

"I'm coming for you, Four-kun!" yelled Rai, drawing her four-sky blade. She flung a fistful of magic casino chips at Behemoth, engulfing it in a golden aura, and lunged forward, slashing at its face. "Hyaaaaaaaah!"
