Screaming, Typh lunged at Yggdrasil Malice.

Malice poked him once with her roots and he died.

"Oh no, the lolicon died," said Spark.

"I'm not a lolicon!" yelled Typh, coming back to life.

Malice poked Typh again with her roots and he died again.

"Oh no, the lolicon died again," said Rai.

"I'm not a lolicon!" yelled Typh, coming back to life again.

Malice poked Typh again with her roots and he died yet again.

Xet poked Typh with her gun. "Dead Taifu. Rosetta, can you handle him?"

"Of course." Rosetta covered Typh in roots and absorbed him.

Snarling, Malice hit Rosetta's barrier of ~~cookies~~ thorns. The barrier burst into rose petals and Xeta took out Malice with a three shot burst.

"Rip Typh," said Maestra.

"Wait! I'm not dead yet!" yelled Typh, pulling free of Rosetta's roots.

Lyria glomped Mae tightly. "Don't worry, Djeeta-dancho! You will always have me."

Mae held out the pap: The Origins, Part 9

Spark's crew had arrived for their very first Unite and Fight. Spark's eyes widened as he saw the ancient battlefield.

"Hey, boss?" asked Yuisis as they got off the boat. "How come you're always picking on Typh?"

Spark blinked. "Hm? Me?"

Yuisis "Yeah. Calling him a lolicon, pretending to flirt with him, all that."

The fox thought about it. "Well, our crew had a good start. We got our first ship at a discount and rose through ranks pretty fast. We felt invincible, you know? We're a bit too proud for our own good."

Yuisis frowned. "Nothing wrong with a bit o' pride, though."

"Well, then we got blown out of the sky. And then we saw just how weak we are." The fox gestured around to he hundreds of airships anchored on the ancient battlefield. "Typh keeps looking at everyone else. He can barely be proud of his own accomplishments these days."

Spark winked at Yuisis. "So this is just to help him loosen up. He's my first officer, after all."

Yuisis stared as Spark padded away. "But doesn't everyone want to be strong?"

...

"3 million honors...?" whispered Typh., staring at the ranking lists in town. "We... are so, so weak..."

"We're a tiny crew, so we're not gonna be scoring that high," said Xeta. "The top crews will handle most of the primals. We're just here for that."

Xeta pointed. In the middle of the town square were thousands of large wooden chests. "Artifacts excavated from the Astral battlefield. Summon stones and And maybe even one of the legendary Revanant weapons."

"Ooh, I want the Seven-Star Sword," said Spark. "One star for each of my tails. Seven-Tail Sword."

Xeta and Typh stared at the fox. "Foxu-dancho, you only have one tail," said Teena.

"Eh...?" Sparkleaf looked over his shoulder at his tail. Then he laughed nervously. "Oh yeah! What was I thinking? Foxes only have one tail, right!"

Walking through town, Spark's crew passed an Erune with a tail, accompanied by a young Draph. "That's Yuel," whispered Yuisis. "She's trying to restore the boss of bosses."

"That Draph looks like someone from my hometown," said Typh. "His name's Ark. But his skyfarer name's Dot."

Further up ahead, they passed Melleau, who was escorting a girl with an axe. "Oh wow, Melleau really does help all sorts of people," said Typh.

"Told you," said Xeta. She blinked and glanced at the girl again. "Oh, hey. Looks like my friend, Rai."

"Wonder if I'll meet anyone I recognize," mused Spark. "Probably n... Oh hi there."

Spark found himself face to face with Katalina.

"You must be that one acrobat," said Katalina, pointing at Carmelina. She looked at Spark. "And I suppose you're the fox who was taking off his shirt."

Typh and Xeta eyed Spark suspiciously. "Spark," said Xeta, sighing.

Spark backed away, smiling awkwardly. "I suppose you're the knight who told me off."

"Eh, Carmelina's part of the family now, Spark's fine," said Yuisis. "Where's Djeeta?"

"Right here." Spark's crew turned as Maestra strode up to them. "Looking for my crew's captain atm. You guys need something?"

"ChunniP, hey," said Xeta.

"Xet, hey." Mae looked at them coolly. "Heard you left your old crew and joined up with these two dorks Right before guild wars, too Kinda shot youraelf in the foot there."

"Hey! We're not that bad," protested Spark.

"Yes we are," said Typh.

Xetaja shrugged. "ChunniP, it's not like my old crew was that active. I learned what I needed and now I can help build up these buncleheads."

Spark's and Typh's eyes lit up. "Besides, this crew seems like fun," added Xet. "We'll be more tightly knit than a large crew like yours. Right?" She gave Typh a friendly punch.

"Hmph!" Turning away, Maestra strode off. "I-it's not like I want to join you guys anyway, b-baka!"

The Grandcypher had returned to Port Breeze for the Festival of Falling Flame.

Typh and Sen made their way along the stalls. Strings of paper lanterns crossed the air overhead as cheery voices filled the air. The evening air was warm and bright.

Except around Typh, where a mysterious force called "Australia" made the air freezing cold. Typh's teeth were chattering.

Sen pointed at one stall's display. "Ooh, I remember that. I wore that last winter, nya!" It was a Christmas outfit with a green skirt, a cute red cape, and a pair of heavy duty gloves with candy-canes for claws.

Typh's eyes flashed. "I'll buy that!" he yelled, running over to the stall and pouring all his rupies on the counter.

The vendor shook his head. "Sorry! We don't accept coin. This is a promotion from Port Breeze's gacha shrine. Make a crystal offering for a chance at this limited-time-only outfit!"

"Eh?" Typh froze. "You mean... I'm making a draw?"

Sen tilted her head curiously. "Typh, were you buying something, nya?"

Typh's eyes filled with panic as he reached for his crystal pouch...

Five minutes later, Rai and Xeta found Typh sobbing next to a pile of R weapons.

Some time ago, just after Scathacha joined the crew...

Two pairs of eyes watched as Percival made his way down the corridor.

"That's him?" whispered Lunalu, voice trembling. "He's... wow."

"Yeah," whispered Mae, heart fluttering. "If I can just get his sword from the gacha shrine, his full powers will be restored. And he'll be... so happy~"

"Oh yes," murmured Lunalu. "Burning through monsters with that fiery hair, I mean that fiery sword"

A knock on the door. Maestra and Lunalu scrambled away from the peepholes in Maestra's wall.

"ChunniP-danchou, I picked up another weird one," sighed Xeta as she entered Mae's cabin with Yngwie. "Captain, meet Gundam Cena."

Yngwie tried to flex his arms, but his giant mecha bracer accidentally knocked over a bookshelf. Maestra groaned. "How many does this make, Xet? First was the stalker maid--"

"Hello, goshujin-samas," said Dorothy, popping up behind Mae's desk.

"Then the cat burglar--"

Catherine ran down the corridor outside, holding a bathtub over her head. Maestra sighed again.

"Don't worry, danchou," said Yngwie, calmly grinning. "I'll help your crew however I can."

"'K," said Mae. "Get ready to swab the decks, Gundam Cena."

And so, the legendary Yngwie joined the Grandcypher for another adventure. Little did he know it would be his last.

Mae hit Spark over the head. "Don't just write people off like that!"

The crew was wandering around a city market.

"Ayer, Ayer!" said Vyrn excitedly. "You like training, right? Why dontcha check out the rec room?"

"Not interested," said Ayer.

"Actually, maybe it's worth a look," said Ayer.

"No one asked you," said Ayer.

"Take it easy, it was just a thought," said Ayer.

"Oh yeah? Put 'em up," said Ayer.

Rai watched eagerly as Ayer picked a fight with himself. Ayer punched himself twice, cracked the pavement with a punch, and knocked himself unconscious.

Vyrn looked at Mae helplessly. "Since when did we have a rec room...?" asked Maestra blankly.

On the last day of Unite and Fight, Xetaja stumbled back onto the boat, clutching a golden dagger with bloody fingers, leaning on her bodyguards for support.

"Xeta?!" Spark stared at Xeta in shock. She was wobbling.

Typh clutched his head. "Oh god oh god oh god what do we do."

They all looked at Spark, who recoiled. "Me...?"

"You're the captain. We await your orders "

His eyes darted around frantically. "Y-yeah. Someone get a mat or something and lay her down..."

Melleau and Marquiares set Xeta down on a cot.

They could hear the barely-conscious Xeta mumbling faintly. "Merits. Merits. Meritsssssss..."

Typh glanced at Spark. "What's she saying?"

"Dunno. Probably nothing important." Spark glanced at Xeta worriedly. "Right... uh, Jasmine and Teena. Can you guys tend to her wounds?"

The two healers nodded. "Of course."

Meanwhile, 500 feet away stood a mysterious purple-haired Erune with a telescope, staring intently at the dagger in Xet's hand...

Meanwhile, 500 more feet away stood Rai with another telescope, staring intently at the purple-haired Erune...

Four weeks before hunting Behemoths...

"Fifty merits to awaken a revenant weapon," groaned Mae.

"Uh, yeah, that's why I was going crazy hunting for merits," said Xeta.

Three weeks before hunting Behemoths...

Spark glared at his seven star sword. "Someone wasn't paying attention when Xeta said you need fifty merits," said Spark. "Hint: me."

Xeta sighed. "Does no one listen when I talk abot these things?"

Frustrated, Spark threw his sword at the wall. It bounced off the wall and hit Spark on the head.

Typh patted the dazed fox on the head "Come Spark, let us mourn our lack of merits together."

Two weeks before hunting Behemoths...

"Wait," gasped Typh, staring at Sierokarte's material list for reforging the four sky blade. "FIFTY MERITS?"

Xeta grabbed Typh's shoulders and shook him vigorously "No one listens to the Xetu. Am I just talking to myself?"

One week brfore hunting Behrmoths...

Mae, Typh, and Spark stared at the table. Xeta stared at them ominously. Jiiiii.

"I could've had 31 merits if I didn't upgrade Gawain's equipment," said Spark.

"I could've had 34 merits if I didn't buy taiko drums," said Mae.

Typh leapt up . "Screw it, I'm gonna replace Altair's equipment." He ran outside.

Xeta flipped the table over angrily. "DON'T MIND ME, JUST SCREAMING AT THE WIND HERE..."

On their way to Treetop Isle, the crew experimented with different team lineups.

"So we're fighting together, huh?" said Gawain. "Ha, as long as it gets this armor off."

Maestra shook Gawain's hand. "Yoroshiku onegai."

"You can count on me!" said Clarisse, winking. "Any enemies will get instantly kerploded! Dokkan!"

Sparkleaf shook Clarisse's hand. "Yoroshiku onegai."

"Everything will be fine from now on," said Narmaya. "Naru-nee will always be here for you."

Rai shook Narmaya's hand. "Yoroshiku onegai."

"I don't know how much I can help," said Melissabelle. "But I'll do whatever I can, if you'll have me."

Typh shook Melissabelle's hand. "You're a shoe onion guy."

Pandemonium, the tower piercing the Crimson Horizon, linking the skyrealms with the forgotten surface. Only the most decorated skyfarers of the Rafale Alliance dared explore its halls.

A giant crab clicked its pincers ominously, looming over Spark and Typh. Their teams were all down, sprawled around their feet. Just the two officers left.

Typh traced a sigil in the air and engulfed the crab in dark mist. The crab just waved the mist away

Spark glared at the crab. "Yuisis said she'd protect me with her life...! I have to be worthy of her! Hyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" He raised his sword and charged at the crab.

Typh frowned at Spark. "She said what? Is this another one of your stories in your journal...?"

Distracted, Spark glanced back at Typh. "No, no. It was back when I was captain, and..."

The crab poked Spark and the fox went flying into the far wall. "Then I stepped down and she didn't talk to me for a month," he mumbled. "Don't wanna disappoint her again..."

The crab poked Typh and he flew into the wall too. "IS THAT WHY YOU'RE PUNCHING A CRAB STRONGER THAN THE BLACK KNIGHT?!" he screamed.

Mae held out the pap: The Origins, part 12

The Grandcypher prepared to set out from the Astral battlefield for Lumacie. "Eh, Djeeta," said Katalina tenatively. "You're not still thinking about that other crew, are you?"

Maestra tilted her head. "What're you talking about? We don't need to bother with some small-time crew. Right? We just need the funds to get to Estalucia and whack Dad for not visiting home. Yeah!"

Katalina and Rackam exchanged glances. Mae was still holding the scouting letter from Spark's crew. Lunalu and Sen looked at Mae, concerned.

"Don't worry, Djeeta-san!" said Lyria brightly, suddenly appearing behind Mae and glomping her. "I'll always be here for you."

"Lyria! Where'd you even come from?" spluttered Mae.

Narmaya also glomped Maestra, squeezing the air out of her lungs. "Don't worry, dancho. No matter where you take us, we'll always be here for you."

"Agh!" gasped Mae. "Not you too!"

...

Meanwhile, Spark's crew also prepared to depart from the Astral battlefield. "What? You scouted Mae?" said Teena, incredulous.

Spark shrugged. "Yeah. Why not? She seems like a pretty good skyfarer." He held up his seven-star sword proudly. "Anyway, this is a lovely sword. And with Gawain and Ghandagoza joining us, things are looking up."

"Merits, merits," muttered Xetaja, who had made a miraculous recovery and was now sliding around the deck on her back. "Foxu, you need four of those swords. And meritsssssss."

"Hush," said Spark. "Where's Typh?"

Xet pointed down. "Gossiping with his friend."

On the ground, Typh and Ark were exchanging pictures.

"I like Sen," said Typh.

"Noa is cute," said Ark.

Spark's crew sailed into a mysterious, dark fog. Typh went out onto the deck. "Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!" he screamed.

"Typh? Is that you?" called Petra. She joined him, worried. "I can't dispel this fog..."

Typh smiled gently. "It's okay, Petra. You're doing your best."

She squeezed his hand. "I'm just glad you're here with me, Typh." Typh blushed.

Yuisis frowned. Even the glow of her sword was barely visible. "This is a very thick fog, dancho."

Spark poked at the fog with his spear tenatively. ""A very thick fog, indeed."

"I just hope it clears up soon," said Xeta, coming out to join them.

They looked at Xeta. "Wait, if Xet's here, and Typh's here, and I'm here," began Spark.

"THEN WHO'S FLYING THE BOAT?" yelled Typh.

Running to the bow, Spark saw a hooded woman floating in the fog. His eyes widened in horror.

Celeste removed her hood, and the fox promptly fainted. "Sparkles why?" asked Typh.

"My ship now," said Celeste. She merged with the ship and turned it upside down.

The entire crew screamed as they fell.

The Grandcypher had arrived at the Lumacie Archipelago, part of Menean territory.

Maestra stared around the mysterious woods. "Be on your guard," warned Katalina, one hand on her rapier. "The woods are always dangerous."

"Oh yes, most dangerous! I am definitely nervous and not at all excited," stammered Lunalu, quivering with excitement. "Who knows what perils the untamed wilds hold... I mean, yes, very dangerous."

Sen's ears perked up. "Wait, is that...? Yes it is, nya!" Her eyes lit up. "Typh!"

Smiling, Mae watched Sen dash through the grass. Right now, just wandering through the woods, she didn't have to think about her crewmates in Golonzo, whom she'd never met...

...

Meanwhile, Spark's crew had set up camp in Lumacie. Teena was setting up a campfire.

"Hey fox," said Xeta, poking Spark. "This sort of terrain should be easy for you, right? Maybe we can find a way back to town."

Spark didn't answer and just stared at the ground in silent dismay. "Foxu-dancho, pls say something."

"You're too glum, Spark," said Carmelina. "You know what our crew needs? More entertainment!"

"Hey boss, we'll be okay," said Yuisis. "I said I'd put you first, didn't I? And... uh..." A flicker of pink in her cheeks as his tail brushed her leg. Spark smiled weakly.

Xeta sighed and glanced around. "Hey wait, where's Typh? Didn't he and Sutera wander off somewhere...?"

The shrubbery behind Xeta parted, and Rosetta popped out. "Hello there," said Rosetta, blowing Xeta a kiss. "Single teenage girl looking for a prospective marriage partner~"

Xeta pushed Rosetta back into the foliage. "Go away."

The Grandcypher was on its way back to Auguste to meet up with Jin.

"What, we're doing a beach episode now?" said Spark. "I'm no good at beach volleyball."

"Apparently Jin has a special way to do that watermelon chopping game," said Mae.

"Did someone say melons?" said Ark eagerly. Rai clocked him over the head.

Suddenly, Typh sank to the floor, laughing uncontrollably.

"Wow, good job, guys," said Xeta. "Typh is dying. And we didn't even reach the beach yet."

Typh continued to giggle and writhe on the floor."

"Typh!" called Sen, bounding forward. Typh's eyes widened as Sen tackleglomped him to the ground. Staring at Sen, Sutera simply nodded in disappointment and stepped away from Typh.

"There you are, Typh," said Spark as he, Xeta, and the rest of their crew arrived.

"Sen, don't run off like that," called Mae as she, Lyria, and the rest of her crew arrived.

The two crews stared at each other. Slowly, Sen and Typh got to their feet. "What're you doing here?" asked Mae, pointing at them.

"We got hijacked by some primal beast and stranded here," said Xeta.

"Ah. So you're looking for a ship, huh." Mae looked at Spark and his crew. Slowly, she held up the scouting letter. "Hey, fox. I know of a pretty good ship. You still want us in your crew?"

Katalina, Rackam, Io, and the others stared at Maestra. "Of course!" said Spark, blinking. "But..." He stared at Mae and her crew. Slowly, he took off his captain's hat. "Just one condition: Could you take over as captain?"
