The RF (rear-fed) platform is the revolutionary weapon system designed and manufactured by Kréchen Techology and Innovation (KTI) of the Décanese Republic. It's most notable for its unique, rear-fed design (where the magazine feeds behind the trigger), allowing for a longer barrel length while reducing overall size. It fires the unique .260 Kréchen (6.5mm) round, which, due to its smaller size compared to a full-sized cartridge, allows for greater magazine capacity, less weight, and more controllable recoil when fired in full-auto. In addition, the smaller size gives the round the ability to cause cavitation at close to medium range (thus improving stopping power), while not sacrificing performance at long range.
The platform comes in 4 different variants, allowing for standardization, ease of training, and cost cutting due to the shared components.
The RF-26 is the standard configuration given to typical infantry. It uses a 30 round magazine.
The RFG-26 is an assault rifle designed to accommodate the use of rifle grenades. The changes consist of the removal of the front sight to fit the grenade, a new set of low-profile iron sights, with the front sight doubling as a leaf sight, replacing the carry handle, and a shortened, horizontal charging handle to avoid blocking the new sights. To fire the grenades, grenadier troopers are given 10 round magazines filled with blanks, with tape around them for identification. This variant also uses 30 round magazines.
The RFM-26 is the designated marksman rifle variant. It features a longer barrel, a shortened carry handle, the modified charging handle seen on the RFG-26, and a scope that can switch between 2x and 6x zoom. It feeds from 10 round magazines filled with armour-piercing .260 rounds. It has also been locked to semi-auto.
The RFS-26 is the light support weapon variant. It features a heavier barrel, a bipod, and feeds from 75 round magazines.
Like all modern Décanese weapons, the RF platform is made from stamped metal and a lightweight polymer, decreasing weight.
