I never built a wall
To keep others out The wall had a gate And some windows Just one entrance But it’s easy to find Come in, the gate’s unlocked I am waiting at the entrance I’m not the best of hosts And the garden behind the wall Is not the most accomodating But enjoy yout visit all the same Sometimes the gate is barred And no visitors allowed inside Perhaps none would visit otherwise But still they gather at the windows Searching for a glimpse of me All it takes is a face in the window And I smile and unlock the gate But if you climb my wall If you enter the garden Summon me by name I will turn tail and flee And may never come back again. |
