I close my eyes and wait for him. He is the gatekeeper to my paradise, it takes what feels like an eternity for him to arrive. It's like this every single time but I never get used to it, I guess I never will. I wait for him to visit me every night, and every night he always does so without fail, so what am I worried about?
When he finally shows up, he takes my hand and thrusts me into his realm. I am in Morpheus' power now, and for the next few hours I am a guest in his realm. At first glance there is nothing but an endless black void, but as soon as you blink, the void is replaced by a lush green meadow populated by a rainbow of vividly coloured flowers, and a mad rabbit drinking tea. You close your eyes and breath in the fresh air, but you almost choke on ash and brimstone, a demon stands above you on a podium threatening you with a whip. Another blink and you warp to a beach, the salty air and warm breeze calming you as the shallow surf washes over your body. The white sand is soft and you close your eyes, resting your hands on your stomach. A penguin wearing a fez swims to shore, and offers you a plate of tacos, which you happily share with him and the eyeless white fox that you have been using as a pillow. You lie back with your new friends and watch the gentle orange-gold of a sunset fade from the sky, a wave rolls in but it's not water it's a warm winter blanket of the softest material you can imagine. The fox is replaced with an actual pillow and the penguin flies off taking his tacos with him. You close your eyes once more. Content, and at peace. Suddenly you're ripped from the fabric of your dream as your mother bursts into the room and screams at you for not instinctivly waking up at seven o'clock on the dot. You try to edge your way back into paradise, but it's too late, you have been ripped from the gentle embrace of Morpheus, and your mother all but slaps you into reality. You groan and silently wish for death as you trudge into yet another Monday morning. |
