Arts

Posted March 20, 2013 at 1:05pm by Popecool

While Projects are specific things that we as a community can explore and undertake, my goal for the arts is a little broader, and I'm hoping it'll inspire you guys to contribute even more.

For those of you who don't exactly go for the arts, don't panic. That's why I'm establishing this in the first place; people who aren't the most 'artsy' can almost always contribute to Projects, to Community, and the Mythos (articles forthcoming). I'm just trying to make this all more transparent. And hey, if that still bums you out a little: maybe you should start pursuing art a little, if you care that much. And I mean, seriously: I'm including roleplaying here. Is roleplaying that hard?

Drawing
----
And this can be real life, digital, pixeling, sketching, whatever. The point is, I'd like to establish a more clear-cut call to commitment and community concerning creativity. (I swear that happened naturally.)

Remember, we have an Artist's Alliance. What I'm trying to suggest is that we all consider taking it a step forward, in how we draw individually and together. About... being a part of something bigger than yourself. That is what most of this Meta thing is about, and as such, this is what I'm trying to get at specifically with this drawing thing.

I'm not talking specifically about the mythos--although that plays into it. (You'll find a lot of things here play into each other.) I'm just trying to encourage you all to draw with more focus--whether with each other or about each other, one of the best ways to fight art block is to find a goal to fight towards. So brainstorm about it! I know that I can't wait to dream up some hilarious collaborative shenanigans.

Writing
----
Ultimately, a lot of what I said above applies here. Yes, we have a Writer's Guild, but what can we do with it? Route 50 stories? Pokemon stories? How about developing an open system within the guild that encourages collaboration and inspiration? Any thoughts to what that could like? (I can't do all the work here, people.)

Roleplaying
----
By its very nature, roleplaying is extremely connected to our concept of community and collaboration, but because of its creative side I'm including it here in the Arts. How can we develop a system around roleplaying? We've talked about a roleplaying tutorial and I've been suggesting launching a new frontier of roleplays, but what would that look like? Would you like to be a part of planning that out? Would you like to simply join the roleplays? We need participation, yo.

I think we could potentially start a central roleplay group, and by extension launch individual groups for hardcore roleplays that need it, as we've discussed. (Simple roleplays, probably not so much!)

Thoughts on the above, people? Would you like to help plan out these systems? Would you like to participate in them?

I've been thinking a little lately about starting up the sprite contests again. ouo Those were always fun, and I think having contests like those regularly (perhaps every two weeks?) would help site activity.

Rad. :D I'll be sure to write that down.

Well, don't compare my work to you, not Soarkleaf, but I'm a writer, a rookie one that is. I guess I can resume writing and upload them here, school hindered me from doing so before.

Also, I'm not sure if this falls into the 'Arts' category, but I plan to make a video on me failing on a Minecraft Modpack my friend made. It's pretty much a pack designed to make Survival Mode impossible at early stages.

also the saga of the anomaly, but I'm not sure how that would create activity in the community

a lot of stuff was already said, so... I'll just comment on other areas

How about streams? That seems pretty popular. It's not necessarily route50-oriented, but it brings the community together. How about we have scheduled dates that people could stream things? Well I guess it's really when people want to.. but it isn't a bad idea, because then people could have a heads up on when someone's going to stream something, and then there's a bunch of people online at once. I don't just mean for art, but for games or music or something too. There's a way for two people to play ZSNES over the internet, too.. we could probably even stream that?

ooh, that's really cool :D about both the streaming and the ZSNES stuff. I can't believe I didn't remember that myself. I'll be sure to write that down. As for scheduling, that sounds good, too. :P We'll have to make sure we round up people who would be interested in that. There's already a pretty strong crowd that tends to show up at people's streams and stuff.

Some random thoughts: I'd say it's important to distinguish between the Route 50 stream and livestreams! xD Furthermore, I'd argue livestreaming as a practice would go under 'Community' as opposed to 'Arts,' but I can't blame you since I haven't written that article yet.

I'd say that it still is Route 50-oriented. Even though we're not using a Route 50 based service, it's still about bonding between route 50 people. :P

//late Yeah!! I'm glad that you think so! I think it would be interesting for people to participate in, even if they're not currently playing. People could switch off, or something.

Yeah ;; Sorry, I just had some random ideas so I wanted to throw that out there. Haha. xD ;

Yeah, that's the good part about it (: ! We all need to get back together again.

Random ideas are the best! That's what this is all about.

I've already been trying to participate more in art with drawing as many people's sonas as I can as my first step in the arts activity. But as a side note I'd love to see more iscribble, pchat or other collaborative parties. Those really seemed to bring quite a few people in the community together and were always lots of fun, at least to me. Not sure who organizes them but I'd love to see more, haha.

As for the other stuff, I'm a not much of a writer, and like Aurore, I haven't roleplayed in years and I'm not confident in my ability to do so anymore. Although it's really tempting to join in that simple one Spark made because it's be easy to get back into it with no pressure. Maybe one day I'll be able to contribute to that again. xD

Yes. ;D And the world thanks you.

Ooh, iScribble is a good idea. I forgot about that.

Rad! :D And just wait, I'm sure more similarly-styled roleplays are on their way.

I'd probably participate in the art a bit, maybe the roleplay? Though I haven't roleplayed in years so I'm not too confident with it. Nor have I ever designed one.

Rad. :D And don't worry at your experience--we often have roleplayers who can barely write legibly. We all start somewhere. ^^
