What's your thoughts on motion blur in games?

If you (somehow) don't know what motion blur is, it's a postprocessing effect in games that typically applies a blur effect to your camera, and any moving object on screen. People often argue whether or not it's a good thing. I'm just kinda curious on your opinions. Personally, I love it, if it's done right.

  • I like it - it creates a nice cinematic feel and gives everything a sense of flow and speed
  • I hate it - it looks ugly, hurts my eyes, and it makes things hard to see when I try to move
  • No opinion - I never notice it, on or off

I had to look for an example of it, cause I don't notice it apparently. Idk, its just one example but it made me feel sick. Video games can give me motion sickness. Maybe this is why?

It is in my opinion that everything in visual design has its own balance; too much of one thing makes it excessive and obnoxious, while too little makes it unnoticable and ineffective. Motion blur is not exempt from this. As long as one has a reason to utilize motion blur, and executes it adequately, I feel that there is no reason it should be avoided- on the other hand, throwing it in just because and in excess is not how game design works.
