I got to see the movie Thursday night, and it was an amazing experience! I loved getting the two-card pack from the theater employee. It really brought me back to the excitement of getting promo cards when I saw the first few Pokemon movies in theaters.
The movie itself didn't have a surprising plot line, but it was very enjoyable! It makes sense that they didn't animate very many different Pokemon, but it would've been cool to see a few more. My favorites were Bulbasaur, Bouffalant, and Torterra for sure. Charizard was neat, but there's something about it that felt a little off so I can't say that it's one of my favorite models, really.
Tim's room in the movie was SO COOL. I know we saw it in the trailers, but seeing the posters on the big screen was really neat. They even chose to put Pokemon TCG art on the posters in his childhood room in a flashback (notably the Feraligatr one from the HeartGold and SoulSilver base set theme deck).
Going into the movie I had a hunch that Tim's dad was in Pikachu somehow, and the way they executed the reveal was a little odd. I think it would've been better if they actually showed Tim reuniting with his dad instead of cutting to a couple days later or whatever. Also Tim should've pet Pikachu at the end, dammit.
But overall, it was a nice way to execute a live-action Pokemon film that caters to both fans and the uninitiated, and I'd really like to see another one! C:
